Removing a standard (replica) connection server or a security server from a cluster of connection/security servers (1010153)

  • 31 Ratings

Purpose

This article provides steps to remove or decommission a connection server from a set of replicas.

Resolution

To remove a replica:
  1. Uninstall the connection server and ADAM instance from the server that you want to remove from the cluster.
    1. Click Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
    2. Remove VMware View Connection Server and ADAM Instance VMwareVDMDS.

Note: In Windows 2008 and later, the ADAM instance name is AD LDS Instance VMwareVDMDS

  2. See Using the vdmadmin Command in the VMware View Administration Guide for more information on how to use the vdmadmin.exe tool to remove the reference to the obsolete replica in the ADAM database.

    An example of the command:

    "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Server\tools\bin\vdmadmin.exe" -S -r -s server_name

For View 4.5 and later, run this command:

    "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Server\tools\bin\vdmadmin.exe" -S -r -s server_name

    Notes:
    • This command should only be executed once on a connection server that is to remain in the replicated group. This command removes the reference of the connection server.
    • The -s option specifies the NetBIOS name of the View connection server instance or security server to be removed.
