Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Windows session authentication stops working after updating Google Chrome to version 105 or higher.


Cause

The issue occurs due to changes in Chrome security model.

Resolution

To use Enhanced Authentication Plug-in with Google Chrome (Windows), starting with version 105, turn "ChromeRootStoreEnabled" policy to "FALSE" in the Chrome Enterprise Policies.

Resolution (via Windows Registry)

In Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome :

  • Add a DWORD (32 bit) Value named "ChromeRootStoreEnabled" to 0
  • Confirm the value in Chrome policy (chrome://policy/) and ensure "ChromeRootStoreEnabled" policy value has been set to 0.
