Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • vCenter server Appliance (VCSA) shows high memory utilization of more than 80% to 90%
  • Executing the below command via ssh to VCSA, systemd-resolved shows consuming more than 20% memory
# ps -auwwx --sort -%mem

USER    PID %CPU %MEM  VSZ  RSS TTY   STAT START  TIME COMMAND

systemd+ 1562 2.6 24.5 18768080 14154216 ?  Rs  Jul12 1367:05 /lib/systemd/systemd-resolved

  • It may impact other services e.g. vmware-vapi-endpoint, where service may fail with error "cannot allocate memory"
  • Restarting systemd-resolved fixes the issue temporarily
  • Validating the systemd using the command below shows version older than systemd-239-39.ph3.x86_64
