Issue/Introduction

The purpose of this article is to provide instructions to stop of the hostd log spew of 'BuildPowerSupplySensorList found 0 power supply sensors' from occurring.

Symptoms:
  • Hostd log spew of 'BuildPowerSupplySensorList found 0 power supply sensors' appears every 2 minutes 
  •  In the hostd.log file, you see entries similar to:
 2021-01-27T00:32:13.060Z panic hostd[2316070] [Originator@6876 sub=Default] *** BuildPowerSupplySensorList found 0 power supply sensors

Note:The preceding log excerpts are only examples.Date,time and environmental variables may vary depending on your environment


Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.0

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0 U2c. To download go to the Customer Connect Patch Downloads page

Workaround:
To workaround this issue  follow the below steps:
1. Log in to the ESXi Shell as root.
2. In the /etc/vmware/logfilters file, add the following entry to create a log filter:
 0 | Hostd | .*BuildPowerSupplySensorList.*
3. In the /etc/vmsyslog.conf file, add the following entry to enable the log filtering capability.
 enable_logfilters = true
4. Run the esxcli system syslog reload command to reload the syslog daemon and apply the configuration changes.
