[VMC on AWS] Unable to power on a virtual machine on the source site after finished HCX bulk migration

Issue/Introduction

This article provides information on how to power on a virtual machine on the source site after finished HCX bulk migration.

Symptoms:
  • Unable to power on a virtual machine on the source site with the error "Failed to lock the file" after finished HCX bulk migration.
  • The below error stack can be seen in Recent Tasks in vSphere Web Client.
Failed to lock the file.
An error was received from the ESX host while powering on VM VM_name.
Failed to start the virtual machine.
Module Disk power on Failed.
Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/datastore_name/VM_directory/VM_name.vmx' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.


Cause

This issue happens if your On-Premise vSphere version is 6 or earlier.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, please perform either No.1 or No.2 and power on the VM again.

1. Unregister the VM from inventory and register it again.
