Issue/Introduction

For plugins built before NVDK 7.0 Update 1, the update and remove procedures are the same as before.

For newer plugins, we have a simpler procedure that does not require rebooting the ESX host.

As of vSphere 7.0 Update 1, vendors can deliver a NAS VAAI plug-in that does not require ESXi reboot to be installed or removed. However, when replacing an older NAS VAAI plug-in, host reboot will be required for removal, because internally those plug-ins specify LIVE_REMOVE_ALLOWED=false.

Environment

VMware vSphere 7.0.x

Resolution

For VAAI-NAS plugins built with NVDK 7.0 Update 1 or later

  1. Stop the daemon:

/etc/init.d/vaai-nasd stop

  1. Update (or Install) the plugin VIB, see esxcli software vib” component commands in ESXi 7.x hosts
  2. Start the daemon:

/etc/init.d/vaai-nasd start

For VAAI-NAS plugins built before NVDK 7.0 Update 1:

Update a Host with Individual VIBs.
