Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Following an upgrade of vRealize Log Insight from 4.8 to 8.1.1, the appliance defaults to the Suse Enterprise Linux Server (SLES) boot option rather than Photon OS
  • Manually selecting the boot option as Photon OS from a vSphere Console to vRealize Log Insight does not persist reboots

Environment

VMware vRealize Log Insight 8.x
VMware vRealize Log Insight 8.1.x

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting vRealize Log Insight 8.1.1.  This issue has been resolved in vRealize Log Insight 8.2, available at VMware Downloads.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue:
  1. Open a console or SSH session to the vRealize Log Insight virtual appliance and login as root.
  2. Using a text editor, edit /boot/grub/menu.lst.
  3. Remove any line containing savedefault.
  4. Save and close the file.
  5. Using a text editor, edit /boot/grub/default.
  6. Replace the existing number with 4.
  7. Save and close the file.
Note: This will set the vRealize Log Insight virtual appliance to default to Photon OS for all subsequent reboots
  1. Repeat steps 1-7 on all vRealize Log Insight nodes in the cluster, if applicable
