Issue/Introduction

The following steps below provide details on how to recover if ESXi 7.0 NSX kernel module is not installed after ESXi upgrade

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.x
VMware NSX-T Data Center

Resolution

  1. Download the NSX-T Data Center 3.0.0 NSX Kernel Module for VMware ESXi 7.0 to the host, available at Broadcom Support.

  2. Install the Kernel Module using 'esxcli software vib install -d /<path to nsx bundle>'
    • example:  esxcli software vib install -d /tmp/nsx-lcp-3.0.0.0.0.15936085-esx70.zip
  3. Put host into Maintenance Mode and reboot the host (this is not required for most cases)
    • Note: Under some special cases, such as when the cluster is prepared with Transport Node Profile, there will be errors after installing the vib, rebooting the host will resolve the error.

  4. Exit Maintenance Mode after reboot.
