This article provides details on the supported versions of VMware Tools when used with vRealize Operations 8.0 Service Discovery and the vRealize Operations Service Discovery Management Pack for vRealize Operations Manager 7.5 and earlier.

VMware vRealize Operations 8.x

Enhancements to VMware Tools have been made to ensure performance and reliability when used with Service Discovery. The following information provides the supported versions of VMware tools for Service Discovery.

Service Discovery for vRealize Operations 8.0 requires the following VMware VMTools versions installed on the monitoring VMs:

• 10.3.21 and above for Linux
• 11.0.1 for and above Windows

While earlier versions may seem to work, there are no guarantees that they will behave correctly and produce reliable data.
It is not recommended to install any other version than the ones explicitly stated above as they will not be supported.

Impact/Risks:
For customers running vRealize Operations 8.0 the supported tools versions are required for Service Discovery to work.  Virtual machines with unsupported versions will not have services discovered.
 
For customers running vRealize Operations 7.5 or earlier with Service Discovery Management Pack it is recommended to update VMware Tools to the supported versions.
 
For customers who are planning to upgrade to vRealize Operations 8.0 and currently use the Service Discovery Management Pack, it is strongly recommended to upgrade to the supported tools versions, prior to upgrading to vRealize Operations 8.0 to avoid disruption of Service Discovery features.
