Upgrading ESXi in SDDC Manager 3.7 fails with "VUM STAGE REGISTER UPLOADED FILES"

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • When attempting to upgrade an ESXi host through SDDC Manager, its fails at "VUM STAGE REGISTER UPLOADED FILES".
  • An EAM baseline may be attached to the ESXi in VMware Update Manager UI page. 

    In the /var/log/vmware/vcf/lcm/lcm.log, you see similar error messages as below:

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 3.7.x

Resolution

  1. Navigate to the vCenter Web Client in a browser.
  2. Log in with [email protected] credentials.
  3. Navigate to Home -> System Configuration -> Services.
  4. From the list of services select VMware ESX Agent Manager and select Restart.
  5. Once the service and been restarted, proceed with restarting the upgrade workflow.
