Issue/Introduction

Because the versions of vRealize Operations Manager in VMware Validated Design 4.2, VMware Validated Design 4.3, and VMware Validated Design 5.0.x and 5.1 are different, after you upgrade VMware Validated Design, some out-of-the-box dashboards provide different metrics.

The newer releases of vRealize Operations Manager introduce new or update out-of-the-box dashboards, and have some metrics discontinued, disabled, or modified.  You must also configure notifications of alerts on different objects.

Resolution

Running the Upgrade Assessment Tool for vRealize Operations Manager

Before you upgrade to version 4.3, 5.0.x, or 5.1 of VMware Validated Design, run the Upgrade Assessment Tool for vRealize Operations Manager. The tool generates a report about the impact on your environment and recommends replacements so that you can evaluate and reduce this impact on alerts and dashboards.

  • Before you upgrade to vRealize Operations Manager 6.7, run the Upgrade Assessment Tool 6.7. See VMware Knowledge Base article 53545.

  • Before you upgrade to vRealize Operations Manager 7.0, run the Upgrade Assessment Tool 7.0. See VMware Knowledge Base article 57283.

  • If you plan to upgrade vRealize Operations Manager from version 7.0 to version 7.5, you can skip running the Upgrade Assessment Tool. See the vRealize Operations 7.5 Release Notes.

Differences in the Monitoring Configuration between Version 4.2 and Version 4.3 of VMware Validated Design

Each version of VMware Validated Design has different configuration and metrics of the dashboards in vRealize Operations Manager. In certain cases, you must also modify the widget configuration of the SDDC Overview custom dashboard and certain notifications of SDDC alerts.

Overview of the Changes in the Monitoring Configuration in VMware Validated Design 5.0.x

vRealize Operations Management Pack for Storage Devices 7.0 is not a continuation of the earlier versions of the management pack. No upgrade path from the adjacent version 6.0.5 to 7.0 of the management pack exists. Hence, providing guidance on the changes in the monitoring configuration in VMware Validated Design 5.0.x, for example, on the changes in the heatmap widgets in the custom SDDC Overview dashboard, is not applicable.

Overview of the Changes in the Monitoring Configuration in VMware Validated Design 5.1

vRealize Operations Manager 7.5 introduces new or updated out-of-the-box dashboards, and dashboards and widgets enhancements.
