Issue/Introduction

A new installation of vRealize Automation 7.5 cluster with 2 or 3 virtual appliances is reporting 'validation failed' on the join-va (join cluster) step.

After waiting up to 15 more minutes without clicking 'retry failed', the status eventually changes to "successful" and installation proceeds further.

This is caused by a premature timeout in the user interface wizard (30 minutes) which can lead to a failure if the join operation takes longer than 30 minutes.

Environment

VMware vRealize Automation 7.5.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue follow these steps:

For each vRealize Automation virtual appliance in the participating cluster:  Login with SSH.
  1. Edit the file:
    • /etc/vcac/setenv-tools
  2. Add the following parameter:
    • VCAC_OPTS="$VCAC_OPTS -Dvcac.config.agent.update.time.sec=360"
  3. Edit the file:
    • /etc/vcac/vcac-config.properties
  4. Change the value:
    • 'cluster.node.read.timeout.in.seconds' from 2700 to 3600.
  5. Continue with the installation.
