Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
When assigning license using a vCenter user which has given Admin role, you see these symptoms:
  • Adding a license in the inventory fails in NSX.
  • You see the error:

The following serial keys are invalid.

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.4.x

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware NSX for vSphere 6.4.x.

Currently, there is no resolution.

Workaround:
To work around this issue:
  1. Add the user to the vCenter Server “Administrators” group using the vSphere Web Client. Alternatively, assign the vCenter Server “Administrator” role to a user and add user to the vCenter Server “LicenseService.Administrators” group using the vSphere Web Client.
  2. Re-register the NSX Manager with the vCenter Server using the above user.
  3. Retry adding the NSX license.
  4. If you see that the correct permissions are given, check if the NTP servers of the NSX Manager and the Platform Services Controller (PSC) are in sync or not. For more information, see Unable to create/upgrade Edges or perform host prep after NSX-v upgrade to 6.4.1 or later with the error: Operation not allowed by applied NSX license (57009).

    Note:
  • You must have a vCenter Server user account with the Administrator role to synchronize the NSX Manager with the vCenter Server system. For more information, see the Register vCenter Server with NSX Manager section of the NSX Installation Guide.
