Issue/Introduction

The purpose of this KB article is to provide a workaround for a known issue seen in vCenter Server 6.5U1 and 6.5U1b

Symptoms:
On a cluster where vSAN is not enabled, you see an alarm similar to:

"Expired vSAN license"

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.5.x
VMware vSAN 6.6.x

Cause

This is a known issue in which the "Expired vSAN license" alarm appears in a Cluster where vSAN is not enabled.

Resolution

This is a known issue which is resolved in vCenter Server 6.5 U1d Build 7312210 - Release Date: 2017-12-19
If you are unable to upgrade to the fixed release or higher, please use the workaround below.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue, disable the triggered alarm:

To disable the triggered alarm:
  1. In the vSphere Web Client, highlight the vCenter Server in the Inventory Pane on the left.
  2. Select the Monitor tab, Issues and then Alarm Definitions.
  3. Select the Expired vSAN license alarm definition, then click the Edit button.
  4. Uncheck the box next to Enable this alarm.
  5. Click the Finish button.
Note: The triggered alarm should clear automatically after completing these steps.
