Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

1. Recompute datastore discovery and device discovery spew into log messages.

2. Recompute datastore messages for SRM are reported every two minutes in vCenter Task pane.

Cause


For typical SRM deployments, the default frequency for Recompute datastore is not too frequent. This task analyses the entire vCenter inventory, some deployments might require a frequency reduction to avoid disruption.

Resolution


To resolve this issue, the frequency should be reduced during deployments to avoid disruption.
  1. Modify the setting storage.minDsGroupComputationInterval in the SRM Advanced Settings to at least 10800 (3 hours).
  2. This will ensure that we get no more than 8 total recalculations per day.
  3. Restart the SRM service.

NOTE:

  • This change will delay the ability to execute a recovery
  • In larger environments, caution needs to be exercised in increasing storage.minDsGroupComputationInterval. A maximum value of 300 s (or possibly 600 s) is recommended.
