Only one host is recommended at powering on VMs in a DRS cluster with DRS set to manual in vCenter Server 6.5

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Powering on virtual machines in a DRS cluster with DRS in Manual mode, you receive only one host in the host recommendation list in vCenter Server 6.5

Note: This is different from the behavior in earlier versions such as 6.0, 5.x.

Cause: This is due to new DRS algorithm introduced in vCenter Server 6.5.



Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.5.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue, revert to the old behavior in previous versions.

  1. Log into Web Client.
  2. Select the cluster and go to the Configure tab.
  3. Select vSphere DRS and click the Edit button.
  4. Expand Advanced Options and click the Add button.
  5. Add these two DRS advanced options and set their values as 0.

    • NetworkAwareDrs
