Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware vCenter Server 6.0.
Currently, there is no resolution.

To workaround this issue, create a Role that includes the Virtual Machine->Inventory->Move permission and set this at the Datacenter level and propagate down for the group or user.

Create a new Role with Move permission for Virtual Machine Inventory:

  1. Log in to the Web Client as [email protected].

  2. Navigate to Administration.

  3. Under Access Control, select Roles.

  4. Click the green plus icon to create a new Role.

  5. Provide a name for the new Role.

  6. In the Privilege list, scroll down and navigate to Virtual Machine.

  7. Expand the Virtual Machine tree, then expand the Inventory tree and check the check box for Move.

  8. Click OK to save the new Role.

Set the newly created Role at the Datacenter level and propagate down:

  1. Navigate to Hosts and clusters.

  2. Highlight the Datacenter object in the Inventory.

  3. Click on Manage and then select Permissions.

  4. Click the green plus icon to add a new permission.

  5. Click on the drop down and select the new Role from the list.

  6. Click the Add button to select the user or group to assign the permission, Click Add , then click ok.

  7. Make sure the propagate to children check box is checked, then click OK to add the permission.
