Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to configure and troubleshoot the End Point Management Solution for operating systems

Resolution

To configure the End Point Management Solution for operating systems:

Note: By default, the End Point management pack for VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.x is installed and listening. Therefore, no configuration is required for the adapter.

  1. Create a user, and assign the role of AgentManager. AgentManager role only requires the Manage Agents permission.

Note: This permission is not assigned to any other role in the default configuration. VMware recommends not to add this permission to any other role, such as Administrator, for security reasons. The user only sends data and does not require access to any objects

  2. Locate and save the appropriate certificate thumbprint. To locate the certificate thumbprint, log in to the vRealize Operations Manager admin UI, and click on the certificate icon in the upper right corner. The correct thumbprint is followed by a description containing:

    Subject Alternate Name: localhost,127.0.0.1

  3. Download and start the installation with the appropriate installation file. You can download the files from VMware Downloads.
  4. Enter the appropriate information in the End Point Agent install wizard, including the vRealize Operations Manager server IP, thumbprint, username and password previously configured with the AgentManager role.
  5. Verify that the operating system is reporting correctly by navigating to Inventory Explorer > Adapter Instances > EP Ops Adapter Instance. Within 5 minutes, the operating system and End Point Agent should be visible under Environment > Operating Systems.

To troubleshoot the End Point Management Solution for operating systems:

  1. Ensure that the settings are correct in the agent properties file.

Note: By default, the agent properties file is located at C:\ep-agent\conf\agent.properties.

  2. Stop the End Point Operations Management Agent service.
  3. Start the End Point Agent by running this command:

    \ep-agent\bin\ep-agent.bat start

Note: This allows you to investigate where the service is having problems starting.

Note: Do not include https:// or http:// with the IP or FQDN of vRealize Operations Manager during the initial configuration because this results in connection failure.
