This article provides steps to downgrade from VMware Workstation Pro 15 to VMware Workstation 14 Pro

Environment

VMware Workstation Pro 14.x (for Windows)
VMware Workstation 11.x (for Windows)
VMware Workstation 11.x (for Linux)
VMware Workstation Pro 14.x (for Linux)
VMware Workstation Pro 12.x (Windows)
VMware Workstation Pro 12.x (Linux)

Note: This video showed the main steps to follow, even if the versions are not the same, it can be used as a reference 

VMware Workstation Pro 15.x and VMware Workstation 14.x Pro  use different virtual machine hardware compatibility. When downgrading Workstation, you must change the virtual machine hardware compatibility version of your virtual machine to Workstation 15.0.

To downgrade your virtual machine hardware compatibility and Workstation installation:
  1. Shut down the virtual machine.
  2. Downgrade the virtual hardware:
    1. Right-click the virtual machine and click Manage.
    2. Click Change Hardware Compatibility. The Change Hardware Compatibility Wizard opens.
    3. Click Next, then select Workstation 14.0 Pro  from the Hardware Compatibility dropdown.
    4. Click Next.
    5. Select your choice when asked to create a clone or alter the virtual machine.
    6. Click Next.
    7. Click Finish.
    8. Click Close.
       
  3. Manually uninstall VMware Workstation Pro 14.x. For more information, see:
  4. Download VMware Workstation:
    1. Navigate to the VMware Workstation Download Center.
    2. Based on your requirements, click Go to Downloads for VMware Workstation 14 for Windows or VMware Workstation 14 for Linux.
    3. Click Download Now. If prompted, log in to your Customer Connect profile. If you do not have a profile, create one. For more information see, How to create a Customer Connect profile (2007005).
    4. Ensure that your profile is complete and enter all mandatory fields. For more information see:
    5. Review the End User License Agreement and click Accept.
    6. Click Download Now.
       
  5. Install VMware Workstation 14.x Pro. For more information, see the Installing Workstation section in the Getting Started with VMware Workstation Guide.
  6. Start the virtual machine.
  7. Uninstall VMware Tools, then re-install VMware Tools for Workstation 14.x Pro. For more information, see General VMware Tools installation instructions (1014294).
  8. Reboot the virtual machine when prompted.
