Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
When logged in to the vCenter Server 6.0 using the vSphere Client and you have an earlier versions of the client installed, you experience these symptoms:
  • Installing the Storage Monitoring Service Plug-in fails.
  • Enabling the vCenter Storage Monitoring Service Plug-in fails.
  • The Plug-in Manager reports the error similar to:

    The plug-in failed to load on server(s) xxxxx due to the following error:
    Could not load file or assembly 'VI, Version=5.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7c80a434483c7c50' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.


Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x

Resolution

This is an expected behavior in VMware vCenter Server 6.0.
  • The Storage Reports selection from an object's Monitor tab is no longer available in the vSphere 6.0 Web Client.
  • The Storage Views tab is no longer available in the vSphere 6.0 Client.

The Storage Monitoring Service plug-in is for the previous versions of VMware vCenter Server. This plug-in is visible if an earlier version of the vSphere Client is installed. VMware recommends to uninstall earlier versions of the vSphere Client that are no longer in use.
