Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • When logging into the Web Client you are prompted to download the client integration plug-in even though it is already installed
  • No error messages are observed
  • Re-installing the plug-in does not resolve the issue
  • When you access Web Client using the latest version of Firefox, which has most recent version of the Client Integration Plugin, the following warning is displayed:
"The VMware Client Integration Plugin has updated its SSL certification in Firefox. Please restart Firefox."

Environment

VMware vSphere Web Client 5.5.x
VMware vSphere Web Client 6.0.x

Cause

The issue occurs due to a problem with the SSL certificate trust for the integration plug-in or corrupt Firefox data.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting the vSphere Web Client 5.5 and 6.0.

To resolve this issue:
  • Uninstall Firefox, restart the machine, and install an Extended Support version of Firefox (For example: Version 52.0) and the Client Integration Plugin.
  • If the issue occurs after you reinstall Firefox and the Client Integration Plugin, edit Firefox options to import the vmware-localhost certificate:
    1. Launch the Options window in Firefox and in the Advanced tab, select Certificates.
    2. On the Certificates tab, click View Certificates, and on the Authorities tab, click Import.
    3. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\VMware\CIP\csd\ssl and select the cert.pem file.
    4. Select Trust this CA to identify websites and verify that vmware-localhost is listed in the Authorities tab.
  • Create a new user profile. For more information on creating a new user profile, see the Creating a profile section in the Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles Guide.

Note: The preceding link was correct as of July 17, 2017. If you find the link is broken, provide feedback and a VMware employee will update the link.

  • If the issue occurs after a new user profile is created, use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Google Chrome to connect to the vSphere Web Client.
For more information, see VMware vSphere 6.0 Release Notes.

  • You may get an error like below.
cip error: Please start the vmware cip message proxy service

If so, on the computer you installed the CIP (Client Integration Plugin) , open Services (services.msc) and start the service "VMware Cip Message Proxy Service"

Additional Information

尽管已安装客户端集成插件,但使用 Firefox 浏览器登录 VMware vSphere Web Client 仍会提示安装该插件
