Cause

This issue occurs when a non-maskable interrupt is sent to the virtual machine. This error is by design and causes the virtual machine to halt.
This error can occur when you attempt to collect system logs with the virtual machine selected in the vSphere Client. The Export menu is context sensitive and options varies based upon the selected item in inventory.

Resolution

If you are attempting to export logs for a host or vCenter Server, ensure that you have selected the host, cluster, or vCenter Server object within the inventory before proceeding with the Export process.

If a virtual machine is selected, you see the options in the Export menu related to collecting log information about the virtual machine. In most cases, this is used to collect information about a hung virtual machine with the option to send a Non-maskable interrupt or NMI.

To prevent this issue from occurring, ensure that the Send NMI to Guest is not selected while exporting logs.
Note: There is no need to open a support request for this error, it is by design and is caused by user action through the vSphere client.
