Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • When attempting to connect to the vSphere Web Client 5.5 (default URL:

    https://vCenter_Server_FQDN:9443/vsphere-client/), you see a white page stating:

    To view this page ensure that Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.0 or greater is installed.

    Note: Below this text, an image displays containing a link to the Adobe website.

  • vSphere Web Client 5.5 fails to open in a browser on a Linux-based system.
  • You are unable to use the vSphere Web Client 5.5 on a Linux-based system.


Environment

VMware vSphere Web Client 5.5.x

Cause

The latest version Adobe Flash for Linux system is 11.2. The VMware vSphere Web Client 5.5 requires version 11.5 or newer.

Resolution

Note: The following is not a supported configuration.

As per the Platform Support section of the Adobe roadmap for the Flash runtimes:
Adobe has been able to partner with Google in providing a "Pepper" implementation of Flash Player for all x86/64 platforms supported by the Google Chrome browser. Google now distributes this new Pepper-based Flash Player as part of Chrome on all platforms, including Linux.

To access the vSphere Web Client 5.5 on a Linux platform, use Google Chrome as Adobe Flash Player has been integrated into the Chrome browser. To download Google Chrome, go to the Google Chrome home page.

Note: Client integration Plug-in is not available on this platform.


Additional Information

The Google Chrome browser and the Chromium browser have different capabilities. One of these differences is Adobe Flash support.
