Issue/Introduction

This article provides current object identifier (OID) assignment information used in VMware products deploying IETF SNMP technology. This article is useful when:
  • You need to find the VMware MIB that contains a particular SNMP object identifier (OID), for example 1.3.6.1.4.1.6876.4.90.401.
  • You are searching for an OID ending with 6876.4.90.401.

Resolution

The SNMP protocol uses binary format to transmit OID information. To decode the binary to string format, you need to install the latest Management Information Base (MIB) module file. For more information see SNMP MIB module file download (1013445).

Note: Using a MIB module does not present the OID information in a human readable format as in the OIDs .txt file attached to this Knowledge Base article.

Use the OIDs.txt file attached to this Knowledge Base article to determine the MIB module, name, type and complete OID number you want to search.

Additional Information

The OIDs are backwards compatible to ESX 2.0. They do not change or get deleted once published. You should update your management applications, adding VMware's set of MIB modules so that it shows the name, not the number.
