Fusion virtual machines fail to start after upgrading Mac OS X

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
After a Mac OS X upgrade, you view the following errors upon opening Fusion to start or resume a virtual machine:
  • "Unable to retrieve kernel zone sizes"
  • "Failed to initialize monitor device"
  • "Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to"


Resolution

To resolve this behavior, please ensure that you are running the latest version of VMware Fusion.

To update from within Fusion:
  1. Launch Fusion.
  2. In the menu bar, click VMware Fusion > Check for updates.
  3. Download and install the Fusion update.

If you are unable to update using this procedure, follow these steps:
  1. Manually uninstall Fusion For more information, see Manually uninstalling VMware Fusion (1017838).
  2. Download and install latest version of Fusion. For more information, see Downloading and installing VMware Fusion (2014097).
