Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
ESX host may display a Purple Screen on reboot and display the error:
NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/vmernel/main/lpage.c:3275


Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.0

Cause

This issue is caused by attempting to limit the number of virtual machines that can be powered on by setting the advanced parameter VMkernel.Boot.maxVMs to a value of less than 7.
To verify the VMkernel.Boot.maxVMs parameter:
  1. Click the ESXi host.
  2. Click the Configuration tab.
  3. Click Advanced Settings.
  4. In the Advanced Settings list, click on VMkernel.
  5. Locate the parameter VMkernel.Boot.maxRegisteredVMs.
  6. Ensure that the value is set to a value of 7 or higher.

Note: The default value is 0.

Resolution

This is a known issue. A software fix will be provided in a future release.
To workaround this issue, avoid setting the advanced parameter value to 6 or less.
