Cause

This issue occurs when your virtual machine detects the connected mouse as a USB device and not as a HID device. While the mouse pointer may still move within the virtual machine, mouse clicks do not register.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, edit the virtual machine configuration file and state that a USB mouse is not connected.

To edit the virtual machine configuration file:
  1. Go to Virtual Machine > Shut Down to shut down the virtual machine. For more information, see Working with power options in VMware Fusion (1018242) .
  2. Go to VMware Fusion > Quit VMware Fusion to quit VMware Fusion.
  3. Edit your virtual machine configuration file (.vmx). For more information, see Editing the .vmx file for your Fusion virtual machine (1014782).
  4. In the virtual machine's configuration file, add (or modify) these lines:

    mouse.vusb.startConnected = "FALSE"

  5. Save the configuration file and close the text editor.
  6. Launch Fusion and power on the virtual machine.
