  • You can access VMware vRealize Operations through a browser using the FQDN
  • You cannot manage the VMware vRealize Operations plugin through vSphere Client

Environment

VMware vCenter Operations Standard 1.0.x
VMware vCenter Operations Enterprise 1.0.x

Cause

This issue can occur if you are using a proxy server and the FQDN is routed by the proxy but the IP address is not.

Resolution

VMware vRealize Operations Enterprise and Standard 1.0 (formerly known as vCenter Operations Enterprise and Standard) have a flag, extensionUseDNS, for using DNS instead of IP. To resolve this issue, set this flag to true.

To set extensionUseDNS to true:

  1. Log in to the appliance on the console.
  2. Open /usr/lib/vmware-vcops/tomcat/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/aliveconf.properties in a text editor.
  3. Change extensionUseDNS=false to extensionUseDNS=true.
  4. Save and close the file.
  5. Restart the VMware vRealize Operations appliance. Right-click the appliance in vCenter Server and choose Power > Reset.
  6. Re-register the VMware vRealize Operations plug-in with vCenter Server. In the Plug-ins Manager, right-click the plug-in and choose Disable, then right-click the plug-in and choose Enable.
