Issue/Introduction

Sites that implement VMware Service Manager to Windows Server 2008 64bit must run Internet Information Services (IIS) in a 32bit mode.
This article provides the steps to ascertain if IIS is running in a 32bit or 64bit mode.

Environment

VMware Service Manager 9.x

Resolution

To check if IIS is running in a 32bit or 64bit mode:
  1. Click Start > Run, type cmd, and click OK. The command prompt appears.
  2. Run this command:

    c:\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs GET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32BitAppOnWin64

This command returns Enable32BitAppOnWin64:<BOOLEAN>True if IIS runs in a 32bit mode. Otherwise, the command returns Enable32BitAppOnWin64:<BOOLEAN>False.

Additional Information

If the command returns the message Permission Denied ErrNumber: 70(0x46), Error trying to GET the Object(GetObject Failed): W3SVC/AppPools, ensure that you are a local administrator or run the command prompt as an administrator.
