Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
The WMI Performance Adapter Service (WmiApSrv.exe) crashes roughly every 5-15 minutes on Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 VM's with VMware Tools.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5

Cause

The problem is caused by an incompatibility between VmiApSrv.exe and vmStatsProvider.dll in VMware Tools.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware Tools 10.1.10.  See the release notes here.

Workaround:
During the installation of VMware tools, deselect the PerfMon integration option.
