Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • After rotating the vRealize Operations Manager admin password in VMware Cloud Foundation, you are not able to log in to vRealize Operations Manager with the new password. The old password still works though.
  • You see that VMware Cloud Foundation has recorded the new password when you run the lookup_passwords command on the SDDC Manager VM.
  • No errors or exceptions were generated during the password rotation operation.
  • Subsequent password rotation operations might fail.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 3.5.x

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware Cloud Foundation 3.5.x. There is currently no resolution.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue, use the following steps to manually update the admin password in vRealize Operations Manager.
  1. ssh to the vRealize Operations Manager primary node as the root user.
  2. Issue the following command:
$VMWARE_PYTHON_BIN $VCOPS_BASE/../vmware-vcopssuite/utilities/sliceConfiguration/bin/vcopsSetAdminPassword.py --reset

Note: You will be prompted for the new password. Enter the password as returned by the lookup_passwords command on the SDDC Manager VM.

Note: If there are any failed password rotation operations in the SDDC Manager UI, they can be restarted at this time.
