Resolution

Summaries and Symptoms

This patch resolves an issue where in certain conditions, the ESXi /dev/random call might get stuck on a loop resulting in the NSX vsfwd connection to close. When you run the esxcli network ip connection list |grep 5671 command, you see entries similar to:

tcp 53 0 10.20.2.56:23897 10.20.1.10:5671 CLOSED 75797 newreno vsfwd
tcp 65480 0 10.20.2.56:32611 10.20.1.10:5671 CLOSED 75797 newreno vsfwd

For more information, see KB 2146873.

Deployment Considerations

None beyond the required patch bundles and reboot information listed in the table above.

Patch Download and Installation

An ESXi system can be updated using the image profile, by using the esxcli software profile command. For details, see the vSphere Command-Line Interface Concepts and Examples and the VMware vSphere Upgrade Guide. ESXi hosts can also be updated by manually downloading the patch ZIP file from the Patch Manager Download Portal and installing the VIB by using the esxcli software vib command.
