Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • After you extend the disk of a virtual machine running Mac OS X, you are unable to extend the partition using the Disk Utility within the guest operating system.
  • You are unable to extend a partition using the Disk Utility within the guest operating system after extending the disk of a virtual machine running Mac OS X.
  • Extending a Mac OS X Disk from within the guest operating system using Disk Utility running on an ESXi host fails.
  • This issue occurs when you attempt to extend Mac OS X versions 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8.


Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.1

Cause

This issue occurs because, when the GUID partition table (GPT) is being created, it is built for the size of the drive it is created on customerconnect.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VCL-VSP510-ESXI-
