Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The backup destination is not automatically mounted after rebooting the VMware Data Recovery (VDR) appliance
  • You have to manually mount the backup destination within the vSphere Client after each reboot of the appliance
  • Backups fail to complete due to an unmounted backup destination

Environment

VMware Data Recovery 2.x
VMware Data Recovery 1.x

Resolution

This issue has been resolved in VMware Data Recovery 2.0.2. To download VMware Data Recovery 2.0.2, go to the VMware Download Center. For more information, see the VMware Data Recovery 2.0.2 Release Notes.

To workaround this issue:

  1. Open an SSH session to the VDR appliance.
  2. Open the /etc/fstab file using a text editor.
  3. Add this line at the end of the file:

    /dev/sdX# /SCSI-0:1 ext3 defaults 0 0

    where
    • /dev/sdX# is the device name and partition number i.e /dev/sda1
    • /SCSI-0:1 is the mount point
    • ext3 is the file system type
    • defaults is the mount option
    • 0 is the dump option
    • 0 is the file system check option

  4. Run these commands to unmount and remount the volume:

    # umount /SCSI-0:1
    # mount /SCSI-0:1

The operating system in the VDR appliance should now be able to read the fstab file and remount the volume.
