Incomplete SOAP Message Sent to the Web Services API Can Increase CPU Usage in ESX Server Host or VirtualCenter Server
Details
When several incomplete SOAP messages are sent to the Web Services API, ESX Server and VirtualCenter Server use a lot of CPU resources. How can I prevent this from happening?
Solution
When incomplete SOAP messages are received by Web services, ESX Server cannot close the connection appropriately. As a result, ESX Server generates several inactive connections which consume CPU resources. ESX Server cannot recover from this.
To prevent this, apply the patch appropriate to the version of ESX Server you are using.
-
For ESX Server version 3.0.1, apply patch 1002094.
-
For ESX Server version 3.0.2, apply patch 1002425.
