Configuring Workstation or GSX Server on a host with VPN

Details

You are trying to use bridged networking on a Windows host with VPN client software installed fails with the error:

The network bridge on device VMnet0 is not running.

Solution

VPN client software generally sets up a virtual network adapter on the host computer. Problems arise when Workstation or GSX Server tries to bridge to that VPN adapter.

To resolve the problem, exclude the VPN adapter from the list that Workstation or GSX Server uses for bridged networking:
  1. In Workstation or GSX Server, click Edit > Virtual Network Settings to open the Virtual Network Editor.
  2. Click the Automatic Bridging tab.
  3. Click Add to add an adapter to the list of excluded adapters.
  4. Select the VPN adapter from the list of network adapters and click OK.
  5. Click OK to close the Virtual Network Editor.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each VPN device you have.
