Reverting to Snapshots of Virtual Machines with Hot-Added RDM Virtual Disks in Physical or Virtual Mode Causes Virtual Machines to Hang (9729125)

Details

When I revert to a snapshot I took of a virtual machine with a hot-added RDM disk (whether in physical or virtual mode), the virtual machine hangs.  What can I do to avoid this situation?

Solution

Do not use snapshot operations, such as revert, on virtual machines with hot-added RDM disks in virtual or physical mode. Your virtual machine might hang.

This problem hasn't been observed when using snapshots of virtual machines with normal disks.
