Cannot Upgrade VMware Tools in Windows 98 Guest Operating System
Details
I have an existing Windows 98 virtual machine. I followed the
instructions for upgrading VMware Tools in the guest operating
system. Why do I still have the old version of VMware Tools, not the
new one?
Solution
This can happen in a Windows 98 virtual machine if the Windows
Control Panel or any of the control panel applications is open while
you are installing VMware Tools. To avoid this problem, be sure no
programs are running in the virtual machine when you upgrade VMware
Tools.
