Ensuring that Memory Limits Settings Are Applied

Details

I have enabled memory limits and set the limit to an appropriate number, but I still get an error message telling me I must increase the memory limits in order to start my virtual machine. Why?

Solution

In some circumstances, VMware Workstation on a Windows host may read a value from the wrong file, interfering with the proper setting of the memory limits enabled in the application settings (Edit>Application Settings>Memory).

To correct the problem, exit VMware Workstation, then delete the following file:
C:\Documents and Settings\[user_name]\Application Data\VMware\preferences.ini
