Details

When my Windows Server 2003 virtual machine loses control of (or ungrabs) the mouse, the cursor still appears in the virutal machine windows. What can I do?

Solution

By default, Windows Server 2003 sets hardware acceleration to a low level, where all but the most basic accelerations are disabled. To work around this issue, set hardware acceleration to Full.

  1. Right-click your Windows Server 2003 desktop and choose Properties. The Display Properties dialog apppears.

  2. On the Settings tab, click Advanced, then click the Troubleshoot tab.

  3. The Hardware acceleration slider is set to Disable all but basic accelerations. by default. Click and drag the slider to the Full position.

  4. Click OK until you reach the guest operating system's desktop.
