Queued Legacy Template Upgrades Block Subsequent Tasks from Running
Details
I've attempted to upgrade a large number of legacy templates. I notice that subsequent requests are queued in the active task window behind the Upgrade Legacy Template tasks. For example, while the upgrade task is running, I can't log in to the VirtualCenter Server from a different client. What's going on?
Solution
If you start upgrading a large number of legacy templates in a short period of time (for example, 30 templates in five minutes), all subsequent operations issued to vpxd are queued while waiting for the upgrade tasks to be completed. Upgrading the legacy templates might take a while and this task uses the same resources in VirtualCenter server as, for example, the client logon process.
To avoid this problem, do not upgrade a large number of templates simultaneously. Always wait for the upgrade task to be completed before you issue other requests.
If this problem does occur, stop and restart VirtualCenter service to clean all the queued task from the running queue.
