Changing the Temp Variable on a Windows Host

Details

How can I change the path where the VMware application stores its temporary files on my Windows host computer?

Solution

On a Windows host, VMware Workstation and VMware GSX Server use hidden temporary files for some run-time data. These files can occupy several megabytes of disk space. These files are placed in the location specified by the Windows user environment variable TEMP. This is set under Control Panel > System >Environment> User Variables. The default location is C:\TEMP. If you run out of disk space on C: you can define TEMP to point to another disk drive.

If you change the directory used for temporary files on a Windows host, shut down and restart the VMware application so it will become aware of the new location.
