Virtual Machine Fails at Boot Up with "WORKER_THREAD_RETURNED_AT_BAD_IRQL" Message

Details

I used P2V Assistant to reconfigure a virtual disk, which I later attached to a virtual machine. After I boot up the virtual machine, it fails with the following error message:

 

STOP: 0x000000E1.... WORKER_THREAD_RETURNED_AT_BAD_IRQL

 

Solution

The crash occurs because IBM Director is installed in the Guest OS. Perform the following steps to boot your virtual machine successfully.
  1. Boot the virtual machine in safe mode.
  2. Uninstall IBM Director using “Add or Remove Programs” from the control panel.
  3. Reboot the virtual machine.
