Can Red Hat Hugemem Kernel Be Used in ESX Server Guest Operating Systems?
Details
Red Hat Linux hugemem kernels (sometimes used on physical systems with more than 16GB of RAM) are not supported. VMware does not support this kernel variant due to the increased overhead of kernel/userspace switches inherent in this kernel implementation. Refer http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/release-notes/as-x86/ for more information on hugemem kernels.
Solution
Use the supported UP or SMP kernel for Red Hat guest operating systems.
