In VMware Player 1.x for Windows, changing a virtual machine's network type does not work (7733853)

Details

In VMware Player 1.x, running on a Windows host, when you change the Ethernet setting (the type of network to which the virtual machine is connected), the change is not reflected in the virtual machine. That is, the network configuration inside the virtual machine—the default router and IP address, for example—does not change.

Solution

This issue was resolved in VMware Player 2.x. The latest version of VMware Player can be downloaded from the VMware Download Center.

To work around this problem in VMware Player 1.x, change the network type, then disconnect and reconnect the virtual Ethernet adapter. In the Ethernet pull-down menu, click Connected to deselect it, and reselect Connected. The change in network type should take effect.
