Upgrade Migration with VMotion Can Fail if CPU Utilization or I/O Load on a Virtual Machine or Host System Are Too Heavy (7136768)

While performing an upgrade migration of my virtual machine, I'm getting the following error message:

 "A general system error occurred. The upgrade has failed. Please power-off the virtual machine and complete the migration."

What's wrong?

Solution

This error might occur when your virtual machine or host system is experiencing a heavy I/O load or CPU utilization. The error forces migration to be completed with the virtual machine powered off. To avoid this problem, decrease the workload of the virtual machine to a medium level before performing any upgrades.
