P2V Assistant 2.1.2 Does Not Co-exist with Any VMware Product That Ships VIE Version 2.2.5 or Higher
Details
The common
VIE library version shipped in P2V 2.1.2 is 2.2.4. If P2V 2.1.2 is
installed on the same machine as other VMware products that ship
the common VIE library of version 2.2.5 or higher, the existing
2.2.5 library will not be replaced with the one from P2V 2.1.2.
This causes regressions in the fixes provided by release 2.1.2.
Similarly, if that other VMware product is installed after P2V
2.1.2 on the same machine, the VIE from P2V is replaced by the VIE
with the higher version number from the other product, causing
regressions also.
The list of
VMware products that ship VIE version 2.2.5 or higher includes, but
is not limited to, Workstation 5.5.x, VMware Server 1.0.x, and
Virtual Machine Importer 2.0 and 1.5.x.
Solution
To find out
the version of VIE currently installed on your
machine:
- Go to Program Files>Common Files>VMware>VMware Virtual Image Editing
- Right click on vmount2.exe to check Properties
-
Click on the Version tab
The File Version is listed in the format "x.y.z.12345"
x.y.z is the VIE version number, e.g., 2.2.4 or 2.2.5
The P2V
2.1.2 installation wizard has been modified to refuse to
install on a system that already has Virtual Machine Importer 2.0
or 1.5.x on it. In essence, this means that P2V 2.1.2 will not
install on top of Workstation 5.5.x and VMware Server 1.0.x as
well, because Virtual Machine Importer 1.5 is shipped along
with these two products.
Users should
operate P2V 2.1.2 either
a) on a
clean physical machine without other VMware products;
or
b) in a
clean virtual machine without other VMware products.
