Ctrl-Alt-Del is intercepted by host and guest operating systems on a Windows host

Details

Ctrl-Alt-Del is intercepted by both host and guest operating systems on my Windows host. What is wrong?

Solution

It is not possible to mask the Ctrl-Alt-Del event from the host operating system. Typing Ctrl-Alt-Del into a virtual machine on a Windows host results in both the host operating system and the virtual machine receiving the Ctrl-Alt-Del. On a Windows host, the VMware software supports using Ctrl-Alt-Insert when inside a virtual machine. The VMware application translates that key combination into Ctrl-Alt-Del for the virtual machine.

Instead of using the Ctrl-Alt-Del key combination to lock your Windows system, try pressing the Windows key and the L key (-L) at the same time instead.
