Finding the Document ID of a Knowledge Base Article
Details
Some published knowledge base articles don't display a document ID. How can I find out what it is?
Solution
Look at the URL in the following example:
http://kb.vmware.com/vmtnkb/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=878&sliceId=SAL_Public
&dialogID=282749&stateId=0%200%20284429&doctag=Author,%20KB%20Article
The article's document ID is the number after externalID. In this example, you see externalID=878 highlighted. This means that the KB number is 878.
You can also access this URL using http://kb.vmware.com/kb/878.
Another way to find the KB number of an article is to search on the title of the article. The KB number appears after the KB article's title in the list of articles the search returned.
