Tools Install Remains Enabled After Guest Shutdown (5498908)
Details
In guests that are not ACPI aware, invoking the guest shutdown does not cause the Install Tools option to be disabled. The console shows that the guest has shut down, but in the inventory, it appears powered on.
Solution
This is expected behavior for an ACPI-unaware guest. If the guest is shut down, the Tools Install option may be available, but tools do not install successfully. Install tools only when you can interact with the guest to carry out the necessary installation steps such as mounting a CD-ROM device. If you cannot interact with the guest, it may be shut down.
